i often wonder the point of my blogging. wad is the significance of this little blog in the tremendous blogoshpere? in singapore alone, almost everyone has a blog. or at least a web diary thingymajick. they decorate their blogs with flashy icons and annoying soundtracks that repeat themselves so much that u feel like grabbing your speakers and throwing it on the floor after listening to that annoying *ting*ting*ting* of midi files.
i can almost instantly recognize a singaporean blog. there is the overly decorated blog look, with sparkling cursors and impossible layouts with insanely small fonts. there is also the random blog with so many pictures that it takes forever to access the thing. then there are the blogs that seems to be written in some alien tongue with all the 'peepz', 'liaox', 'lehx' and the insane amount of singlish.
back to the point. what is the point of bugger-ism.blogspot.com's existence? why have i created this monstrosity? just the other day, i have had a debate with a friend's friend about blogging.
"Most blogs are just recordings of some so-and-so's mundane life. Unless that so-and-so is attempting to write a biography, I don't see how blogs can do much for one's self-discovery and self-improvement."
"i'm pretty clear on how blogging has evolved into a fad of some sort. i'm disgusted because the true meaning of the log(sp) has been undermined."
"and the true meaning of the blog is??"
"definitely not a webpage filled with
1) aBhOr- W0RtHy StIcKy CaPs
2) dumb, lame jap anime songs playing in the background that only serves to irritate
3) pseudo-chatrooms in the form of tagboards

And also, the horror of horrors: The New Paper, The Straits Times and its subsidiary minions teaching you "How To Blog" every other fortnight.Plus, blogging competitions. Hey,like wow. Isn't this all too hyped-up?Geez. I don't call all this blogging, or any of its associates."
you see, i have seen my fair share of terrible blogs. blogs with one liners like "i went out with him today :)." or "we fought.". blogs with only one post stating "test. this is a test post." dating back from 1999. blogs with impossible sentences like "Starry, Starry night. My first time to see so many stars. nice.".
i define them as terrible because there seems to be no point of their blogging. at the risk of seeming hypocritical, i cant stand reading blogs with no point. those which record day to day activities like "i woke up at 6 am. ran all the way to the bus stop where i had to wait 5 full minutes for the bus." like. wow. wheres the point in that. and trust me... i have SEEN these COUNTLESS number of times.
People write for a number of reasons. there are those who write to entertain being the attention-seekers that they are. there are people who write to update their friends about their happenings in their lives, friends who have went seperate ways but still care. there are people who write because they want to tell the world (or their readers) something. there are people who blog because they hope to impress someone with their english so that he/she can land writing job.
i write for everything above. i am an attention seeker. and i am proud of it. i write to inform or to entertain. even though i have my own physical diary with my very private thoughts in it, i still continue writing here in the hope that the people read it and share my thoughts or care enough to let me know that i am flawed. that my thoughts need to be re-thought. or to confirm my perceptions of this world.
and that is why i write. what about you?
